 Bonnet Nut Frozen
Author: texas tornado (TX)

I have a Valley single handle shower - no tub spout- that was installed in 2000 in new house. Just recently it started to drip from the shower head. I tried to take the bonnet nut off to see what parts I need to order but it is frozen. I have spayed WD-40 and let it sit, tapped all around with a mallet and still no luck to remove it. Any ideas appreciated. Also I replaced the shower head arm due to being all pitted and now I notice water coming from the hole where it goes into the wall. I used Teflon tape on the threads and have it completely screwed all the way in. Should it have an O-Ring? There wasn't one when I took it out. When I finally get this thing apart would it be better to just replace with a new unit or order replacement parts? First time poster with only a little bit of plumbing experience. Thanks

There should not be an O-ring on the shower arm, maybe you wrapped the Teflon the wrong way and it came off as you screwed the arm in ?

I wrapped the tape clockwise as the thread was facing away from me. You're right it should be counterclockwise. Any thoughts on removing the bonnet nut?

No offense intended but it sounds like you need to call a plumber. Watch what he does so that you may learn from the experience.
