in april 2014 my bath drain stopped working..after a lot of back and forth with condo board,(they said it was my problem).i had 4 plumbers and roto rooter try to unplug drain..nothing worked..in december, yes i had no tub all that time, i sued board at which time they sent a plumber who went to basement cut thru ceiling and a cut off about 20 inches pipe which he then showed me seemed to be full a substance he said was grout that had hardened..in 13 yrs i have lived here, no one in my condo used any grout or threw it in tub drain. the tub now drains.. am still in court, next appearance is sept 6 ,(they gave me a $1200 bill which i have not paid ) to resolve this issue..how can i prove to a judge that i did not throw grout in drain.. it doesntlook like grout to me..it has black flaky specks mixed in. too bad i cant post a pic of the cut pipe.

a plumber has told me that many yrs ago galvanized pipe was used for plumbing, but was found to be porblematic and then they switched to what is currently used(dont know what its called) ..he says the grout like stuff caused a buildup of the grout like material.

There are many times when something, such as grout, gets into a pipe and does NOT cause a problem for many years or even a couple of decades, but then, when it does cause a problem, it is difficult to resolve it. You would be surprised at the things I have found in drain lines that worked ever since the building was constructed, many, many years previously, until stuff finally accumulated around it and closed off the drain. In those instances, also, the only remedy was to access the pipe and remove the section.

Is the tub fiberglass, or is there tiles above the tub base ?

offer them 600 and get on with enjoying the summer.

u dont know my board...they are now paying a lawyer for 3 trips to court..all they had to do was fix it and send me a bill which i probably would fight over..when its a plumbing problem behind walls rules are condo pays with our maint. money..i pay $507 monthly, $200 is for an assessment which is for 10 yrs..

If you have pictures of before you moved in and current pictures, you can show that remodeling hasn't been done.

For just pennies you can keep your drains and home fume free by using baking soda and vinegar instead of harsh chemicals or calling the plumber.
