Hi-
I have ~60 year old California home with a sewer gas problem that is more likely to show up during the summer. The bathroom has a tub on the left, toilet center, and sink on the right. The tub and sink vent pipes rise at a 45* angle to meet the large black ABS toilet vent. The sink and tub have P traps. I'll fill the P traps with water daily and yet the smell reappears. The only way I can stop the smell is if I close the sink and tub stoppers and tape over the tub overflow. The smell seems to mostly emanate from the tub. This bathroom goes directly into the large cast iron main running out of the house, and the tub is most downstream.
I'm guessing that the cause is either the water being syphoned out of the P traps on the sink and/or tub, or the vent (or diagonal vents from toilet and sink to main toilet vent) being clogged. I tried running water from a garden hose down the vent from the roof, but that didn't seem to do anything.
I'd greatly appreciate any advice as to the next steps that I can take to diagnose this.
Thanks!

Sometimes exhaust or circulation fans. Over sized air conditioning can/will cause a vacuum on a waste system.

since the smell goes away when you stopper the sink and tub while covering the overflow holes, that would rule out the wax seal under the toilet.
if you say the tub and sink are vented and you have water in the traps, well, this is a tough one.
try leaving a window open slightly to rule out air ventilation problems.
