Hi everyone! Forgive me in advance if any of my terminology is incorrect. We are renting an apartment where the maintenance staff is non-existent. The tub in our bathroom has a faucet and 2 separate handles mounted directly to the tub itself (Whirlpool tub)
When we moved in the actual faucet was missing and the had a piece of rubber attached directly to the water pipe where the faucet should be and a handheld shower attached to that. Needless to say that didn't hold up long before it blew off. I found the original faucet and attached it, and we were provided a shower attachment that fits over the faucet. It comes off everytime we use it.
My question is what can I do so that we have a working handheld shower that isn't rubber and clamps. I'm just going to buy whatever I need myself because maintenance couldn't care less if it ever gets fixed.
Can I buy a handshower and just attach it where the faucet would go? Can I just buy a new faucet that doubles as a handshower? Any advice would be appreciated.

I believe this is what you have.
should be able to buy parts from delta that you need.
you might also try picking up this trim set from home depot and hopefully the spout will just slip on. you won't get a spray head with this faucet as it lacks the necessary fitments below the tub.

I can honestly say that's the first time I've saw a dishwasher ell used in that manner.
If you'll remove the clamps + rubber and show a picture of what's sticking up thru the tub we may be able to better advise what you need to buy.

He said he has the original spout and they gave him a "slip on" hose to fit over it.

If you remove the hose, the inside of the stub may be threaded, (in order to pressure test the installation), and if so, you can screw a pipe into it and then adapt to the hand held as necessary.

i'm 100% sure the link I provided is his delta roman tub fill. if he did attach the spout, I can't imagine how he attached a hose to it???

a little hose wouldn't allow for the same volume and would build up back pressure until it blew off much as it is doing. There isn't a good route to improvise a shower with a tub filler that won't fail.

Possibly clamped a hose over the end of it.
