 showerhead and diverter question.
Author: jbunny (TX)

Hi,

MY bathroom is going to be renovated (due to a failed shower pan yay!) and I'm in the middle of picking out all the things for the renovation. Currently, we have a delta showerhead/hand shower combo, with a diverter on the wall that only does water on cold to hot. I like the set up, I just want to change the finish, because I like to make things difficult for myself.

So logic tells me, go for a delta showerhead/hand shower combo with matching diverter. I was in my shower measuring the other day though, and I noticed that the diverter is actually MOEN brand. ??? I double checked that showerhead was delta (still is) and now I'm all kinds of confused.

According to delta (and logic) the shower set up should go something like this:

delta showerhead --> delta valve (specific to showerhead) --> delta diverter to access any/all features of valve/showerhead.

Should I take it off the wall and find out if it's a moen or delta valve? Or should I just trust and buy delta stuff?

I am not sure that you are using the term "diverter" properly, because a diverter only changes between a spout and the shower head. It does NOT change from hot to cold. There is no Delta valve that is specific to a shower head either.

Any showerhead can fit on the shower arm. They do not have to be the same brand. Showerheads are simply screwed onto the 1/2" IPS shower arm. Someone in the past installed a Delta head in a shower with a Moen valve.
