Is this double vanity trapped wrong?
Author: ddbbp (KS)

1.5 pvc comes thru BOTTOM of cabinet and extends vertically to a "cross" fitting. one horizontal side is the trap arm for one sink and the other horizontal side is the trap arm for the other side. The top of the "cross" fitting has a female adapter and a AAV.

If you can picture this, does it seem wrong to you? 1 or 2 traps needed?

thanks. I was thinking the "cross" was some sort of screwball fitting. I suppose a cleanout would have been nice but technically you could clean it out by removing the AAV.

If it were not a "hack" installation, the cross would NOT be the proper fitting, but in this case it is as good as the rest of it.

A back to back fixture fitting would be the correct fitting to use in that situation. A cross or double tee will not pass inspection in some areas. I'd rather snake from the top of the pipe than the side, so just unscrewing the AAV would be ok.

what does a "back to back" fitting look like?

(probably looks like something you can only get at an old school supply house!!)

the "back to back" fitting is also known as the "double fixture" fitting. It looks kind of like a double sanitary tee but the geometry is different. You won't find it at a big box store. I remember the pros here said this fitting is desirable because if you snake from one side of a double sanitary tee it may navigate across to the other side of the sanitary tee, while for a double fixture fitting is much less likely for that to happen.

Also, you will notice that the "Vent" portion of this fitting begins at the top of the drain line. This allows the fixtures to draw air without affecting the opposite side of the drain smiling smiley
