hi. my toe touch tub drain has been leaking since we moved in a year ago, and i'm trying to fix it now. i took the assembly to the local big-box and bought a replacement, exactly the same but even when closed, it's taller than the one it's replacing. the bottom screw threads fine, the toe touch part locks in place fine, but it is too tall to seal. i can't adjust it shorter (but i took it apart to see if i could). what am i missing?

I would say that you need a shorter stopper.

The stopper height is related directly to the depth of the strainer it threads to. If you bought the whole assembly, thread the new strainer into the drain and the stopper should work properly; if you just bought the stopper, take it back and get a shorter one.

couldn't find a shorter one like the one that had been in there. my s.o. found one that sealed with an o-ring instead of screwing in to the drain, and that fixed it. evidently the made-on-the-cheap drain isn't the standard size but the made-on-the-cheap stopper was.
