 Frost free faucet
Author: bskern (IN)

Trying to replace a frost free faucet but unable to break loose. Faucet pipe is copper to possibly a brass coupling that goes into a galvanised piece that attaches to PVC pipe. Need suggestions for breaking faucet pipe from coupling.

I've applied liquid wrench and tapped it with hammer. Had friend outside turn faucet while I was inside basement holding coupling. But channel locks keep sliping on coupling. Nothing has a nut to grab hold of.

I thought about cutting pvc pipe but galvinised piece is too big to pull through outside wall.

Any suggestions???

Thanks

Use an actual pipe wrench?

Cut the PVC and then pull the faucet away from the house about 4-6". Cut the faucet in half with a hacksaw and remove the one half from the basement. Install the new faucet and beginning at the PVC, reconnect new plumbing to the faucet. If there was no service valve, now is the time to install one.

The "coupling" may be part of the faucet. Try turning the coupling while holding whatever it screws into it.
