I recently had my bathroom remodeled using Delta faucets and accessories. The new Pop-up stoppers allowed water to slowly seep out of the sink while I shaved. Thinking that they were bad stoppers, I had them replaced. The new stoppers did the same thing. The plumbers that handled the installation were unable to stop the draining and said that the fixtures just were not as good as they use to be. They had no additional recommendations. I called the Delta customer service line. They told me that there is a new law that is about 6 years old that does not allow standing water in sinks, and it must drain at a rate of at least one gallon per hour. I've never heard of this. Is it true?

i thought i had heard everything but this one takes the cake.
if you push down on the stopper does that stop the water from draining?
i would check that there is putty under the flange.
meanwhile pardon me while i ROFLMAO...
new law indeed...

Not allowing standing water in the sink...Wow, what are they afraid of that someone might mistake it for a toilet? I love all this big government and the control over our lives....don't you?

the stopper is plastic with some kind of rubber to make the seal. if IT has a problem, pressing down on it will cause it to seal.
so, i would suspect no putty below the drain flange. this would cause the same problem.
as for the reply from delta, call them back and tell them that licensed plumbers from all over the country would like to know theexact wording of the leaking stopper new law and just when it went into effect.
i'm still laughing at that one.....

I'd say it's leaking between the flange and the sink. The water is going on down the drain so it won't show up as a leak under the cabinet. They will need to be sealed to the sink surface. Apply a liberal amount of plumbers putty and don't let the flange turn as you tighten the drain from underneath.

That is about the most ridiculous statement I have heard in years. But, the plumber SHOULD have been able to make the stoppers work if they are installed properly.
