 Kitchen Sink Drain Route?
Author: Dan0 (TN)

Two questions about a kitchen sink drain.

First... the drain goes thru the floor rather than back into the wall like I'm use to. The supply lines do that too. Is that acceptable? I don't like the way it looks. This house has a crawl space and the house is about 30 years old.

The other thing is that it drains into a 2" PVC pipe that runs about 12 or 14 feet before it tees into the main 3" line (all horizontal). There is a vent a few feet up the 3" pipe... for a bathroom sink but other than that, there is no vent. Is that acceptable?

Thanks

the vent for the bathroom sink must be higher than the trap not down in the crawl space.
if AAV's are allowed in your area then that is the easiest way to vent the kitchen.

If the sink is on an outside wall, then bringing the supply lines up thru the cabinet is good practice.

It is good practice because it is less expensive for the homeowner.

It is good practice because it prevents the pipes from freezing and bursting in sub-zero temperatures.

Good point. We in So Cal forget about freezing as it does not occur here that often. Glad you added to the conversation.
