Hi all,
I replaced my Mixet cartridge last week. Yesterday, water started leaking from the shower head with the valve completely shut off. Today, I went to replace the cartridge thinking it went bad and noticed that there was a shard of metal that broke off that was stuck to the washer on the back, I guess that belongs to the back of the pipe?!
What do I do with the little piece that broke off? Can I repair the pipe? The new cartridge stops water at the off position but I'm assuming that back washer will rip given the situation with the pipe. Not sure if I caused it to break or if it's just old?

Shut off your main water, remove the cartridge(s) and see if you can dislodge the metal. Have someone turn the water back on, use a big bucket over the valve assy. to catch the water blowing out of the valve body for 5 seconds and see if the shard can be "blown out" of the valve body.

The shard was lodged on the back off the cartridge, not stuck in the pipe. I noticed it after I replaced with the new cartridge. However, I have not investigated the innards of the valve assembly yet.
I'm wondering is there an easy fix (like bondo) to repair whatever came off and what should my next steps be? Currently I have a new cartridge in there that is working at the moment but I'm positive the little chunk of metal that came out with the other cartridge might lead to a bigger problem as I might be damaging it more when I turn the water on and off.

it should be a simple job to remove the cartridge and have a look at it to see if any thing bad is happening.

It might have been just debris in the pipe and not part of the pipe.

Here are some pictures, I could not identify where the shard came from:

With the cartridge in the closed position it seems to be dripping a little bit. It might be the cartridge itself?

The new cartridge is leaking as well? The water flow is controlled with the cartridge, unless there is damage to the valve body that allows water to seep past the seals.
