Outside faucet
Author: trexmon (PA) Outside water faucet broken. Not just washer as handle keeps spinning when trying to shut off. Can't find exact replacement for handle. Read how to replace faucet but pipes leading to faucet are inside a wall behind dishwasher, etc. Only about 1-2" sticking out outside soldered on and too close to siding to heat up. Any ideas? Hopefully added a picture. Edited 1 times.

Author: m & m (MD) There is enough pipe protruding from the wall that the old one can be unsoldered and a new one soldered on. Better yet, solder on a female adapter and then screw a hose bib that is male threaded.

Author: North Carolina Plumber (NC) A wet cloth could be placed against the siding if you're concerned about melting it. I'd sweat that valve off and sweat a female adapter in it's place and screw in a male boiler drain . There should be a vacuum breaker on the boiler drain.

Author: trexmon (PA) I heated the crap out of the fitting and will not budge. Been there for 25 years. Thought about cutting it off with a dremel but won't be enough left to sweat w/o setting vinyl on fire.

Author: steve (CA) How about cutting off most of the valve, leaving the threads? This way it takes less heat to loosen the soldered remains.

Author: KCRoto (MO) Use mapp gas. Propane may not be hot enough in the open air outside to get the job done if there is a breeze.

Author: trexmon (PA) How do you guys feel about Shark bites for this application. I could cut it off & have enough room for that. Steam coming out as I heat up. Maybe water causing desolder problem?

Author: KCRoto (MO) If you have steam, then you have water standing in the pipe and it is sloped the wrong way. In the long term, you would be better served by replacing the line from the inside and changing the slope of the line, but if it has (and you use) an inside shutoff, then it should be fine.

Author: trexmon (PA) 25 years never shut it off & never froze. (knock on wood) Big problem is all pipe is inside wall.

Author: packy (MA) use a shop vac to get all the water out of the pipe. it will then unsolder easily..

Author: hj (AZ) YOu are not getting all the water out of the valve, because of the way it is constructed water stays in the bottom portion of it.
