 Disposal & double sink
Author: rookie_plumber (TN)

In my double bowl sink, why does my bowl not connected to the disposal fill up with water when I use the disposal? Each is has its own P-trap and connected to the drain after that. When the disposal is not on each drains normally, except the one with diaposal drains slower.

There's a partial blockage downstream of both sinks, and it takes less resistance to push the water back up into the other sink than it does to force it on down the drainage system.
The partial blockage could be as simple as a low spot in the piping that's holding water.

Is there a simple way to find where the blockage is?

you can sometimes fill a sink and pull the plug. if the water slows down immediately the clog is pretty close. the longer it takes the further away the clog is.
