No water flow to tub/shower faucets
Author: EDK (CA)

Have 21 year old Grohe two handle system. It does not have any balancing features (too old). Water flow was very slow for a long time, so I changed the cartridges, and lost all flow. Removed cartridges and confirmed high pressure in both hot and cold, but when cartridges are replaced, no flow! Removed tub spout, tried again, but no flow? I assume something clogged the mixer pipe but don't know how to clean it out.

I have never been able to do it either.

If it is a last ditch effort, remove the shower head and twist the shower arm 180 degrees, then pour white vinegar down the shower arm. If this is a calcium buildup it may well dissolve enough that water can blow out the rest. Let gravity and the acid do its work for a few hours. if you put a bucket or tray underneath, you can see when the vinegar starts to make its way through, then carefully turning on the cold water may help force any remnants out. I haven't tried this, but the shower line should be a direct line into the mixing chamber. If the vinegar runs straight through, plug the tub spout to hold the vinegar against the back side of the stoppage. Best of luck.

Thanks for the advice. I let the vinegar stay overnight in the shower pipe. This morning I turned on the cold water...nothing happened, so I tried the hot water and the it flowed from the tub spout with a force I haven't seen in years. I just filled the pipe again...And I have high hopes that the cold side will do the same. Thanks again!!!

Hooray! I've got my water pressure back. Using distilled white vinegar down the shower pipe worked. Everything's back to normal. Thanks again for the tip.
