 Bathroom Sink Installation Problem
Author: rkteck (NY)

Hi,
I recently installed a new faucet in my bathroom. The sink is an old 3 hole model that required a 3 piece faucet rather than the all in one kinds. The problem I have is that the bottom of the sink is not level. So when I attempt to tighten the handles, the bolt doesn't get a good grip on the sink. I'm afraid to over tighten the faucet and crack the sink.

Is there some bracket or bushing I can buy to accommodate the angle and get a secure fit? If so, what is the item called?

Thank you very much for your help!

You could try rectangular pieces of plywood under the sink with a hole in the middle for the valve body and the plywood shimmed on one side to level it out.

Or if I understand your question, determine how much out of level the install is and try cutting pieces off of a Schedule 40, 3/4" coupling to slip over the faucet on the bottom just prior to tightening up the nuts.

That will allow you to tighten the faucet level like I say if I understand your dilimina...

If the vanity top isn't secured well, you can unhook the drain and pull the top off, then grind/sand the surface smooth. While it is off, install the faucet and supply lines.

Thank you both for your help! I'll try the plywood first since its the quickest. This is the original bathroom at my grandmothers so I'm pretty confident that it the sink wouldn't pop out of the linoleum 8' long counter top easily.

I always seem to run into these problems when I'm helping someone out smiling smiley

Normally, you do NOT "tighten the handles" to secure the faucet to the sink so we would need to know the make and model of the faucets to see HOW they should be attached.

Take it to a bearing supply house, and tell them you are looking for a bearhug washer to fit it.
