Hoping someone can get me going in the right direction. I have a leaky faucet, its leaking under the handle so it seemed the simple solution would be to replace the cartridge valve. Im not sure of the brand so I took the old part into lowes and visually found an identical one, apparently its a delta. I tried to confirm this on their website but I cant find an exact match. Either way here comes the bigger issue. after I reassembled the faucet its running full stream and the handle basically does nothing. I've taken it apart and reassembled it probably 15 times now and nothing works to slow the flow of water once I turn it back on. I even attempted to reinstall the old piece that just leaks and it is now not able to shut off the water either.
Anyone have any ideas?

What type of faucet? Sink? Tub/shower? Single handle or two?

You probably lost the rubber seal from inside the faucet body. That is what turns the water off.
