 Irregular Bolt Spread Toilet
Author: Darkhaze (Non-US)

Hi, I have a YATO toilet with selectable flush that requires a new seat. Got a standard replacement based on bowl measurements only to find that the bolt spread is 5-3/4" as opposed to the standard 5-1/2". I am having no luck on either the internet or calling local hardware stores, even plumbing specialty stores. Do I have any options other than replacing the toilet? Can I jerry rig the seat somehow? The bolt holes are too close for a simple extender retention solution.. Is drilling at the edge of the assembly as bad an idea as I think it is?

the plastic bolts that come with a seat must be 3/8 inch bolts. if you set those aside and used 1/4 brass bolts and nuts you might just make up the difference?

well.. the math works lol.. makin me do math.. it sounds interesting. Although it also sounds like another broken toilet seat bracket, but I'm still gonna look into it smiling smiley

Try a quality wooden seat - you can remount the hinges slightly.

Your toilet was produced by the Chaozhou Yatao Ceramic Co, in @#$%&, China (mainland)
It uses a special seat, also produced in China. It would be most interesting on how this toilet
made its way to North America, as I know of no dealers.

Best Wishes

Like ever? I figured out the china part, but it's pretty hard fathom y the guest bathroom by the front door has some random chinese toilet that was never sold here... it works well with very little water, looked like less than 6L tank when I opened it yesterday, but the shipping costs and trouble would have been insane...

I found a company that has a $25 dollar seat with adjustable hinges... but they are only in the states and to get it to me in Canada with shipping and customs and taxes make it a few cents under $100... and if it doesn't fit right aside from bolts, it's probably unreturnable...

suggestions? I've only seen cheap wooden seats around and i figured one of the sales guys would have said if i could stretch the mounting a 1/4"... though that would be easy to redrill the holes for one side if I get the right kind of design... do they have types like that?

Why not replace the toilet itself with a quality toilet that has standard parts available anywhere in North America?
