 troubleshooting grundfos UP26-96BF

I've had a grundfos UP26-96BF (52722336) pump as a hot water recirculating pump for 15 years. Now it appears it is not running anymore. the housing gets hot but it is not pumping water in the system.

Any tips to find out if I need to replace the whole unit or can I just replace the cartridge?

How hard is it to replace the cartridge if that is the solution?

thanks.

try to locate a grundfos tester. you simply hold it over the center of the circulator housing and it spins if the cartridge is spinning.
supply house should have them.
as for changing a cartridge, it is pretty simple. 4 cap screws is all..

That's a lot of circulator, for a hot water recirc system. How is it controlled?

It wasn't controlled for the first 10 years. Just on all the time. This is a two story house with the pump in the garage which is below the first story. After that we switched to a tankless heater and it's been off most of the time. Recently I connected it to a timer that turns it on for an hour in the morning and a couple of hours in the evening.

Has it worked at all since you hooked it up again?
