 Shower Hot Water Issue
Author: pampie (NY)

I have a single handle shower faucet in a stall shower - I believe it's Kohler. I haven't used the shower in about 2 years. Upon trying it today, only cold water works. When I turn the handle to the HOT position, nothing, no water comes out. The hot water is turned on - I have hot water in the bathroom sink and the rest of the house. But no water is flowing when I turn the faucet in the shower to hot. Does this sound like a simple fix or something serious?

Thanks!

It's a stuck balancing spool inside the faucet body. The water will need to be turned off, the faucet disassembled and the spool cleaned or replaced.

some shower valves have a shutoff screw for hot and cold they MAY be on the inside face after you take the trim ring off They would be about 1/2 inch slotted screws which simply turn the water off to the valve

Unless someone removed the trim ring and turned an integral stop off, that is NOT the problem. It is a stuck balancing spool and replacing it with a new one from Kohler is the best option, since it cannot be taken apart and cleaned.
