 oil rubbed bronze faucets
Author: bick123 (OK)

We built a house about a year ago. We have delta windmere oil rubbed bronze faucets in the bathrooms. in one bathroom, the sink faucets have a rough whitish scaly buildup at the bases of the faucet and handles. this began within 3 months of installation. I am scared to try anything for fear of damaging the finish, but they really look awful. so much that I am considering replacing them at this point. any ideas?

I would try white vinegar to break down the calcium. Soak a paper towel or washcloth in vinegar and wrap it around the affected area and let it sit there for a bit and then try to scrub it gently. From comments I have seen in other areas of the web, I don't recommend CLR as it has reportedly stripped the finish off the faucets. You might even try diluting the vinegar in water to 50% strength for the first try and see if that will do it. In this case, you want the minimum amount of acid necessary to accomplish the task. Make sure to rinse well when you are done, wash with mild soapy water, then rinse again.
