ice maker line between expansion tank and water heater
Author: linpt (VA)

Just had my water heater replaced and had an expansion tank added. The existing ice maker line is now connected between the expansion tank and the water heater. Since the installation the ice maker line works for a while and then stops. Initially all the lines had to be purged which got the flow going again but then after a while it would stop. After running water throughout the house the ice maker water would run for a while but stop again.
The plumber that installed does not seem to understand why this is happening. Any ideas?

Check the documentation for your fridge. It may be equipped with an internal water filter that may have become partially clogged after your recent water service work.

Thank you for your reply. The filter is inline with the supply line and is connected just after the shut off valve. When the problem occurs I disconnect the filter at the inlet, open the valve and the water still does not run. So the problem seems to be a pressure issue.
Thanks again for taking the time to offer assistance.

In that case, there may be debris in the shut off valve.
