Water gushing from toilet when I do Laundry
Author: Gallegra (FL)

Hello all,

I have an interesting problem here. My toilet is connected do the line that supplies my washer machine, and water started to come up from under the toilet. So I replaced the wax seal (went waxless this time), and tested it and it seemed to flush fine. When my roommate went to do the wash today, she reported water gushing out of the toilet bowl (she didn't notice if it was coming from underneath or not too). She said the first batch of water seemed dark, but she didn't have the light on so she's not sure (didn't know if that was important or not). She tried the wash again after cleaning it up, and the same thing happened - water gushed out the toilet bowl. When I got home from work I took a look, and now water's steadily dripping from the valve/spigot to the water going into the toilet. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Your drain line is stopped up and needs to be cleaned. By replacing the wax seal under the toilet, you merely stopped the leak path there, and forced it to the higher elevation- the bowl rim.
