 Removing stem from kitchen sink
Author: Anonymous User

I have a leak in my two-faucet kitchen sink. Specifically whenever I turn on the water, water shoots out of hot-water handle--even when I turn on the cold water. I wanted to take the hot water handle apart and get a look at it. I've removed the handle and the O-ring and the packing nut, but the stem is still held in place by another large nut that has two long flat sides and then the ends are triangular. I cannot seem to budge this nut.

Any idea what kind of tool I need to remove it?

Thanks.

That retaining nut should just unscrew with a crescent wrench or channellocks.

Cool. I just didn't want to push too hard on anything I didn't know what it was. That has ended badly for me in the past. I'll try again. Thanks.

Replace the packing nut first so you do NOT distort the valve.

"A Two Handle Faucet" doesn't begin to tell us what you have. What brand and model faucet do you have? If you do not know, can you provide a picture of it here. Help us to help you.

Best Wishes

I have no idea what make it is--the previous owners installed it and I can't find any brand name on it. Here's a photo:

I would appreciate the help. I don't want to break anything.
