Hi. I'm a landscape contractor and I have a client who is requesting a grill island with a natural gas hookup. I understand sizing of the pipe based on demand of the appliance, the Cu output from the utility, and cross referencing it with the code chart at how long my run will be to adequetly supply the grill with the right size pipe. My client asks that the line be flexible for seismic safety (we are in California) so I was looking at CSST. There is no place to trench the line so everything will be exposed, but in the corner of the stone patio so it will be out of the way. Is CSST safe to be exposed to UV? Would I have to protect it? I see some wrap a heavy duty tape around some flex gas around town. Is that necessary? Thanks.

a) Outdoors – When installed outdoors, the external jacketing shall remain intact as much as practical for the given installation.
Any portions of the exposed stainless steel tubing shall be wrapped with tape or sleeved to prevent later threats by acid or chloride based cleaning solutions for masonry. Self-bonding silicone tape is recommended here for durability.
b) Along side a structure – When installed along the outside of a structure (between the ground and a height of 6 ft.) in an exposed condition, the
CSST shall be protected from mechanical damage inside a conduit or chase.
A conduit or chase is not required if the tubing is installed in a location that will not subject the
CSST to mechanical damage

quote "but in the corner of the stone patio so it will be out of the way."...
there is no inspector around who would approve that...
run hard pipe and protect it from rusting with paint.

If the gas is coming out of the house, can't you use a section of csst where it drops down to the ground, protect that in a box, then hard pipe it?

As a business, you have to ask yourself what your insurance company would cover you in the event of a failure. Are you covered for this. If not, hire a licensed plumber.
Best Wishes
