Dear Plumbing Forum,
We have a drip in the faucet in our claw foot tub, but there is no indication of the brand of the faucet. How can I find this out? It isn't Strom.
Thanks!

I don't know the specific brand by looking at it, but it is a washer less design that delta uses as well as knockoff brands. Inside the body just past where you pulled the stem out, there should be a cup shaped rubber piece with a spring under it. Those two pieces are what you need to replace to stop drips. Any plumbing supply, box store, or hardware store should carry delta seats and springs.

Try a Delta cartridge with spring/seal assembly.

Delta stems DO NOT have a "spline" for the handle, Nor do Valley or Moen. If I saw that faucet without seeing the stem, I would have said it was a 1920s "Fuller ball" mechanism. Very retro.

Ok. I bought the parts for Delta, but a local plumber said he couldn't do anything with it until he knew the brand. What I bought sure looks like what it looks like. I just can't get the screw off to get to the thing, but I'll figure that out. Thanks.

IT may be "similar" to Delta, but the bottom and the handle spliine are NOT like anything Delta has ever made.

The valve itself does not meet any modern plumbing code as it has a submerged outlet.
All codes require the spout to terminate minimum 1" above the fixture (tub) flood rim.
You may wish to consider a newer modern valve as a retrofit as parts for a non code compliant valve may be difficult to get.
however
the EXISTING set up may be 'grand fathered'
Vic, perhaps you would care to recommend NYRP via private message ?
