 oatey 95 tinning flux consistency?
Author: gmum (IL)

I have some Oatey 95 tinning flux

It was a new container. The flux was much more pastey or soupy than I can remember. Almost want to say watery or runny, you could mix it up.

Did my flux go bad?

I always remember it as being much harder to apply.

It gets runny when it gets warm, and when all the solder settles out of it.

So I assume I can just mix it and use it.

I would like to know what the consistency of different fluxes should be. Primarily Otey No. 95. I bought a can at HD and it is very thick. Hard to get it into 1/2" fittings as it comes out as blobs on a brush.

Have the same question. Called Oatey - they said it shouldn't be that thick. Headed back to the store in the AM to see if other tins are any different. There is a date code on the side of the cap or the bottom of the tin - you can check that to see how old the flux is. First two numbers are the year; last two are the month. i.e. 2003 is March, 2020. See if you can find a date on yours.
