 old old pedestal sink?
Author: sum (FL)

I noticed a local ad selling an "antique" pedestal sink.

I see the hot and cold controls and the pop up assembly but where is the spout? Is the part sticking out a spout integrated as part of the sink?

That looks very cool!

Neat...but non-code compliant because the spout is below the rim of the sink.

Yes, the spout is integral with the sink.

So it means it needs a custom faucet?

or any widespread faucet would work as long as you throw the spout away?

Says 1928.

Yes, it takes a customized faucet that matches a 1928 sink.

Sum,

Yes the part 'sticking out' is a spout integrated INTO the china sink itself.

It is NO LONGER code compliant since the outlet is NOT 1" above the overflow rim of the fixture itself.

While it looks very pretty, it will QUICKLY become a nightmare trying to retrofit.

Run, Sum, run smiling smiley

I do not remember whether that sink has "internal passages" for the water flow, but if it does the only faucet that will work is that one. Even if the valves are external, it would still need a "compression" device of some kind to connect to the spout.

You are kidding, right? Sum has NEVER found any "orphan" plumbing part that he did not like.

LOL hj I am not crazy to buy something that depends on extinct hardware from 1928!

sum, if you really like that sink, you can use a wall mount lav faucet with a long spout. you can remove the old basin cocks and put lotion dispensers in the holes.
you would also have to plug the backside of the spout opening so if you fill the sink it wont overflow out that hole.

Depending on HOW that sink was made, there may NOT be a "back hole" but rather he would have to seal BOTH sides of the faucet openings, (probably better than a dispenser would seal them). Many like that had the water go through internal passages from the valves to the spout.

Packy no I was just curious about the sink, no intention to buy it. I have too many unfinished projects to volunteer for new ones. However if I bought it the main reason would be the integrated spout so I would not have used a wall faucet.

Crane and American Standard both had sinks like that, but this one is probably CRane.

If the sink is 87 years old then it is older than everyone.

Not by much, however.

THAT integrated spout does NOT MEET CODE as it has a submerged outlet.

In your home, who cares !

In a rental, no way, no how !
