I want to purchase a counter top dishwasher and install it permanently under my counter since I have no room to keep it on the counter itself. My question is...the area where I need to put it is about 5 feet from the sink and garbage disposal. Is this too far for proper drainage? What little I can find about permanent installation says it need to be as close as possible to the sink but does not say how far is too far.
Thanks,
Shortsis

Any dishwasher can be set almost anywhere. The issue at hand is how it will be connected to the drainage system. I have seen dishwashers set into islands that had their own 2" pvc drain with an air admittance valve set just below the countertop that worked fine. I have seen them with tubing extensions- the first loop was attached at the top of the cabinets under the countertop, then the holes in the back of the cabinets progressively got lower, putting some fall into the drain. Regardless of how you get the job done, I suggest getting professional help, and make sure that all the little things are in order to help prevent property damage. Securing the unit properly, installing new quarter turn shutoffs, etc.
