In massachusetts, how do i add the 3 inch plastic WYE connecter to my existing sewer drain in my basement. I am adding a UPLUSH toilet and can either enter to the drain pipe going into 3" line or a place where there is a 2" line going into the 3" at a WYE. I am running 1" (as opposed to the 3/4 line) macerated waste line. (i am installing SAnibest Pro)
I am not sure if I can use the Fernco couplers, or if I need to use PVC/ABS couplers and fight with the 3" line. Or can i somehow use the 3" tee connector from fernco? I looked at the code and it looks like Mas requires solvent joints for PLastic to plastic, no exceptions. If this is the case, my only option seems to be to fight the 3" couplers into place.
Any thoughts? Lastly, my drain pipe runs horizontal along the joists and out. I would be tying in horizontal to horizontal.

Please consider hiring a licensed plumber in your state and have the job done right. You may have to put a permit and have the work inspected.
Best Wishes

In MA, a homeowner can't do their own plumbing. Hire a plumber, get a permit and inspection. Your bases will be covered, and the job will be done correctly.

Thanks i understand the Mass rule. By Mass law you need a plumber to replace a faucet.
Any help on the best to install the WYE would be greatly appreciated.

i don't think you fully understand the mass plumbing code restrictions.
if you perform plumbing without a license in massachusetts, you are subject to a fine of up to 2500 dollars and can be made have all your illegal work ripped out by a licensed plumber. even in your own home.....
if you understand the implications and still want to go ahead, someone here may want to help you. if not, try someone at home depot or lowes. you have been warned..

Thanks Packy
I did call 4 plumbers and one called back (and I will be going with a pro and not doing it myself). He came out and I am waiting on the quote but i do have a question. The plumber that the shielded connector (one with the metal around it) is legal to put in as opposed to the plastic fitting due to a change (or some other word he used) in the existing plumbing. I did ask for him to quote the 3 inch plastic couplers as opposed to the fernco couplers. The way I read the code it says plastic to plastic must only be fitted with solid. I can always call more plumbers to come in for a quote to see what they say but I thought i would ask.

i'm not aware of a provision in the MA code that prohibits using any approved sheilded rubber connector to join PVC to PVC.
doesn't mean it is not there, just means i never heard of it..

The term "Fernco" is a trade name for a multiplicity of coupling types, but is usually used to refer to an "all rubber sleeve with hose clamps on the ends" which are NOT approved for your application.
