 leaking anti-siphon valve, outdoor faucet
Author: drd (MA)

4.3.15 I've got a brand-new (as of last fall) outdoor faucet that I (stupidly) forgot to disconnect the hose from before the first frost. Although I got to it before the truly bitter weather hit, now it leaks from the cap on top when I turn the faucet on (and fortunately, only when the faucet is on) Is there a way to repair this or do I have to get the plumber back here to replace the whole valve stem again(costly and time consuming as I have to tear out finished ceiling in basement to do it...AGAIN) Thanks, Chris

It can be repaired from outside assuming that the faucet isn't busted. They make repair kits for the vacuum breakers . If it's a Woodford the cap just prys off and the vacuum breaker unscrews. Usually a rubber washer gets deformed from the ice and needs replacing.
