Hello,
I'm ordering parts for a sink install and replacement fittings for a toilet and am a bit confused about what size compression fittings I need for the shut-off valves. Options are 1/2" x 3/8" and 5/8" x 3/8". My pipes are "1/2-inch", but I am aware that what we call 1/2" really has a 5/8" diameter... hence the confusion.
Both of these sink kits from Kingston Brass look like they would meet my needs, but there are slight differences in the valve stops:
Item CC43101DLLKB30 says it comes with 3/8" O.D. comp x 1/2" FIP according to the technical drawing.

Item CC53301DLLKB30 says it comes with 3/8" O.D. x 5/8" O.D. according to the technical drawing.

The kit for the toilet involves the same issue... but I think if I can sort it out for the sink, I can apply the same logic and learning to the toilet kit.
Can anyone offer insights as to which would be best? The people from the company were not of much help over the phone and I'd rather not prod my plumber friend who's helping with the install as he has done so much for us already!

5/8 OD will be a compression fit for nominal 1/2 copper tube
1/2 FIP will be a female thread for 1/2 pipe
if you have a 1/2 copper out of the wall with a male threaded adapter use 1/2 FIP
if you have a 'bald' 1/2 copper tube use 5/8 compression
nominal 1/2 copper has 5/8 OD
