Installing a Toilet Frame in a Gypsum Wall
Author: dalligator (NJ)

I have a concealed cistern / toilet frame I need to install within a gypsum wall. The wall is free-standing, and back-to-back to another bathroom.
The toilet is wall-mounted to this frame.
How do i install this cistern frame within the gypsum wall well enough to support the person + toilet, without fear of having the toilet come loose and collapse? Are there any regulations for this type of installation?

The only "regulation" is that it has to be anchored solidly so it does NOT break loose. I am not sure what you mean by a "gypsum wall", but it MUST be anchored to a solid wood structure.

Depends on the floor. I would NOT attach one to a wooden floor.

It would require bolting to actual framing members with appropriate bracing.

HJ,

Have you forgotten that the walls are merely supports for our piping ?

With a toilet, they ARE the supports but they have to be strong enough to hold a user on the bowl. A carrier has to bolt to at least 2x6 studs.

You mean actually PLAN OUT a bathroom ?

With a 2x6 'wet wall' no less ?

OMG

What will be required next ?

Perhaps actual plumbers !

You should consider having the toilet(s) installed by a licensed plumber. These types of installation can be troublesome if not installed properly. Following the manufacturers instructions may not be easy. A floor mounted carrier may be required, if not supplied by the manufacturer. Do it right the 1st time for worry-free operation.

What brand are you using?
