Last night showering I went to shut off the shower which has a single control shower handle. It's the one that turns up and to the right for hot and down and to the right for cold and down and center for off. When approaching the off position I heard a pop and now the handle is rotating 360 degrees instead of the 180 it is supposed to. I was able to center it myself and shut off the water. What needs to be done to fix this? New trim or valve?

Most likely trim, but without knowing the make and model, it is hard to be specific. It is possible that it is just the handle. A picture would be helpful.

It's the original builder's no name handle. There is another thread from this website regarding what brand the handle is. It can be seen here: [www.plbg.com]
I have the same exact handle. I believe they determined a gerber or tuscany handle would fit.

Handle, could be knob or lever. Lever handles can be hyper-entended, while knobs are easier on the operating cartridge or stems. Let's begin the the manufacturer or a picture of what you have.

Take the handle off and see if there is anything broken or deformed on the handle, and check the red plastic of the cartridge. That should be where the handle stops hit. One of the two is broken.
