Replaced diverted stem and no water coming out of shower head.
Author: Njennings86 (NY)

Hello. I have just replaced my shower diverted and hot/cold valve stems. The brand is sterling. The model number of the faucet stems is 10L-1H/C. The model number of the diverter stem is 10L-3D. When I turn on the faucets water comes out to the spout just fine. When I turn the diverter to the shower, the water stops flowing out of the spout like it should, but no water comes out of the shower head. Help me please. I even took the washers out of the new stem and put them in the old one to be sure I had the exact stem. This didn't work either.

Either the shower head is plugged up or the faucet body has an obstruction, because if the tub shuts off the water is trying to go somewhere.

I've checked the line going up to the shower and it seems clear.

But did you remove the showerhead?

UNless you have a serious problem with the diverter, all it should do is shut off the tub and open the shower, so if that is happening and the water does NOT come out of the shower, that implies that there is a blockage between the valve and the shower head.

remove the diverter stem and apply back pressure through the shower arm with either water or air and force whatever debris is blocking the system back out.
