I am framing out a shower. One wall of the shower is simply a 4 x 8 foot wall coming out of the main wall perpendicularly. It is fastened to a stud below and above. It is a typical 16" on center and I put put cross beams every 2 feet up the wall. Seems very sturdy but is it sturdy enough that if something happens on the other side of the wall (who knows, someone falls on it) that the tile won't crack?

It sounds like you are trying to do this under the radar and without inspection, permit, or experience.

ANY advice you get over the Internet about cutting joists to raise the roof would be USELESS, because only someone who actually SEES your roof could even begin to make a suggestion.

Well, I've done about 30 tile jobs in my house and my rentals but I had never reinforced a wall when I tore out one of those crappy plastic units. Just didn't seem like it would give the support I needed for tile. Any advice would be helpful. thought of doubling the wall or putting a big header across the top where the door is. Or is this just overkill?
