 Basement sewage pump knock
Author: Damon (PA)

I have a basement bathroom which requires a sewage pump up system due to the fact that the bathroom is lower than the main line to my septic tank. Is there a way to prevent the loud pipe knock when the sewage pump cycles? I have the check valve installed on the discharge line right as it leaves the tank. I suspect that the knock is head pressure from water falling down on the check valve when the pump shuts off. Would a second check valve installed near the top of the vertical run of the discharge pipe eliminate or at least reduce the knock?

do a search for "quiet" or "silent" 2 inch check valves.
zoeller makes a good one.
adding a second check valve will do nothing to help the noise..

I would make sure first that the discharge line is secured and that it isn't the momentum of the water making the pipe smack into something like a floor joist.
