Hello I have a sewer gas smell coming from my toilet replaced wax ring smell came back. When we take the toliet off there is no smell. We have a old toliet in the basement that is not being used so we brought that one up and changed it out no smell..so we took that old one off again put the newer toliet back on and the smell is back again?? What the heck is going on is there something wrong with the newer toliet? Wax ring was replaced again after the old toliet was taken off..I am just wondering before I go spend money on a new toliet. I don't use the old one because I'm used to the comfort height one now.. Any advice would be appreciated
Thanks

I have only seen it one time, but I had a customer that had a hole in the china that happened during the casting. We only found it because we were using acid through the spud to burn out calcium buildup(it wasn't hardly flushing), and the acid started coming out of the trapway into the bowl, instead of the rim jets and bottom jet like it should have. In effect, probably 1/3 of the flush went backwards toward the bowl from the trapway while the other 2/3 went from the bowl to the trapway, and sewer gas just came straight out and through the vacuum breaker assembly(which wasn't sealing correctly either) If one toilet has the problem and the other doesn't, then I am going to lean towards a bad toilet. I would write the company for sure, because they may make good on it, but nobody else likely will.

I installed a "bad" new toilet awhile back. It took a smoke test to confirm it was faulty.
