This is the setup under the cabinet floor which is under my kitchen sink. It's a double sink.
I noticed a small pipe that doesnt' seem to do anything, doesn't smell either but should it be capped?

looks like someone ran a smaller copper tubing to possibly feed a dishwasher??

We have a dishwasher hooked up already. The house is 15 years old and this is the first time we've lifted up the cabinet floor.
There's no crawl space or basement. house sits on slab foundation. (fyi)

Should I cap that hose?

IT could be a "sleeve" for a water line to the refrigerator in case you wanted to run reverse osmosis water to it.

how are you going to cap it if it is right smack up against the PVC ?
if there was any room you could slide a sharkbite cap onto it but it looks like 1/2 inch OD to me and i don't know that sharkbite makes a cap that small???

It could be a return line for a recirculation system that was never installed

I'm sorry I didn't mention that the pipe is not copper. It's flexible.

If you know who built the house, they may know who did the plumbing and you could call their office. They may have a standard method of roughing in for their company and can tell you why they did it. Maybe they run an extra line in case of a leak under the slab later, only the installer knows for sure. Since it isn't hurting anything, I would just make a couple calls.

The builder is a fraud...law suit, very messy, we'll never see a dime...Stuck with a money pit we're trying to fix.

Long story short, I have no clue who installed what. To attempt saving a few $$, I thought I'd try here first.

We're going to put a temporary cap on it. If needed later, we can remove it. It hasn't done any harm and there's no odor coming from it but I certainly don't want bugs.

I'd blow compressed air through it and listen for where it escapes.

If there are "bugs" in that pipe, then capping it will only make them find a different way in, because they will already be in the house at the other end of it.

Even if the builder was crooked, it doesn't necessarily mean his subcontractors were. If there aren't many companies around your area, I would just call and ask about your address. The plumbers and electricians may have gotten a raw deal too.

Well a while back I hired a plumber to do a rough in and the pvc riser was not off by half an inch from the wall. He brute forced it into place, by sort of bending the horizontal pvc pipe running to it. Then he held that pipe in place by pounding two short pieces of scrap copper pipes, essentially using them as stakes until the trench is backfilled and concrete slab is repoured.

Perhaps it was used to nudge the PVC drain to where it should be?

Pex would NOT hold or support anything to keep it in place.
