We have a small leaking faucet and need to remove the valve to replace the washer. But we're having the darnedest time trying to remove the Escutcheon - that plate that slides over the valve and goes up against the wall. Our thinking is it's screwed on - but we are not able to move it at all. We're hesitant to use any large pliers as it would scratch the surface.
Is there a special tool to remove these? or any idea how we can remove it? Thanks in advance.

Do you know the make of the valve? The escutcheon plate either has exposed screws, screws that are hidden by a snap on cover plate or there is a decorative tube, that screws over the valve, and this tube pushes the escutcheon against the wall.

No way to give you an answer without at least a picture of the valve.

I think I know which valve you are referring to and how to remove them but would need a photo to be sure.
