Violating Massachusetts plumbing regulations by performing plumbing without a license is subject to a fine of up to $2,500.00 and YOU can be made to rip out everything you have done.

are you asking if it is legal in MA to convert a whole house from one to another?
or are you asking if the pipe is somehow rendered useless by propane?

Nothing happens to the pipe when it is used for NG. It is not compromised so you can use it for whatever you want to, unless you don't like the odor it picks up from the NG.

It might depend on how old the pipe will be at the time of conversion.

In NY, for new NG plumbing with permit, the inspector wants to see all new piping even for NG to NG - there have been cases where the inspection failed because the plumber re-used one of the old fittings in the all-new shiny black piping.
