Hi all,
I am new to this forum and was hoping to get some help to see if I could fix a problem on my own before calling a plumber if at all possible. The hot water in my guest bathroom tub which is located on the second floor of the home is not flowing however hot water is flowing out of the two sinks in the same bathroom. I had used the hot water in the tub and the shower just the day before also which is why im so puzzled!
The water pressure is good when I turn on the cold water but when I move the handle over to the hot water side the water completely stops flowing. This has a Moen single handle faucet with a Moen 1225 (says 12801 on the piece itself) cartridge. Thinking it could be a cartridge issue I replaced it with another Moen cartridge and I still the same problem. I then took out the cartridge and tried to clean out the inside of the pipe where it sits and used a wire to see if anything was stuck in the hole for the hot water side to no avail.
It has been very cold in NJ this winter but was just as cold last year during which I had no problems. Also the cold water comes normally leading me to believe its likely not a frozen pipe (but you guys are the experts!)
Any suggestions or ideas? I really appreciate it!

Your tub valve has a cold supply and a hot supply. You have to feel the hot supply to determine if it is frozen. You can also remove the valve mixing valve to determine if you have flow of hot thru the valve.
Then call a license plumber.

It IS frozen, regardless of what happened last year, or even yesterday. I am not sure if you can get warmth to the frozen spot, but leave the valve turned on all the way to the hot side. Hopefully, it will eventually start dripping, and once it does that it will thaw out very rapidly. Check it frequently so it does not thaw and overflow the tub. There are things we might do, such as remove the large trim plate and direct the air flow from a hair dryer into the wall, but not sure if you can do it.

HJ you were right I did exactly what you suggested and water started to flow. Now i just have to figure out a way to insulate the pipes appropriately. Is it ok to insulate right by the mixing valve that seems to be where I directed the heat and it opened up? Thanks SO MUCH!

You can insulate ANYWHERE and ANY HOW you want to.

You can insulate any way you want as long as the insulation is between the exterior and the pipes at a minimum. Putting insulation around the valve won't help if the entire wall cavity is ice cold.

Thanks for the feedback, I definitely will need to insulate soon. It froze up again when the temperature dipped below zero again. Thanks for all the suggestions and help.
