Have a Koehler toilet installed 1987. Clogging a recurring issue for several years. May go long periods with no problems then happens again. Have two other bathrooms in house and and do not have the same problem. Our plumber suggested we replace toilet due to possible calcium build-up. Other toilets also older too... Can this be the problem or something else?

If the water level is at the correct height in the tank, the proper flapper is being used, and plunging makes the toilet flush fine, then yes I would agree.

calcium is a problem with a lot of toilets, and it isn't impossible to remove, but you would have better results if the toilet were replaced with a better quality unit. Older toilets were designed to use more water per flush, and when the water restrictions reduced the toilets to 1.6 gallons per flush, most toilet manufacturers simply reduced the amount of water in the tank, available for each flush. It's like trying to drive a car with three tires; it can be done, but it isn't very effective. New toilets like Toto redesigned the model to flush effectively with 1.6 gallons of water, and flush as well as the older 2.5 gallon models, and they do so very quietly. If you want to upgrade the toilet, go with a new toto drake, if you would just put a cheap model to replace the existing toilet, you can just try using some CLR to help dissolve the hard water deposits.

Some Kohler toilets just have a bad design and that is why they clog frequently.

Checked out the Toto Drake but colors will not "fit" with current bathroom and don't want to pull everything apart. Seems like only manufacturer that comes close to color is Koehler... Any suggestions?

In my humble opinion, white toilets match everything.[www.totousa.com] you can always call Toto's customer support and inquire about custom colors. The last toilet I priced for someone that wanted a custom color was approximately a 20 week wait a few years back. She ended up deciding that white would work in her teal bathroom after all.
