My hall toilet on the first floor developed an occasional knocking in the pipes. It also stopped filling when the pipes would knock basis.
I purchased a new set of guts for the toilet thinking that might help but it has not. During the test of the new fill valve, knocking started and water flow stopped. I unhooked the supply form the toilet to try bleeding it into a bucket, but when I opened the valve nothing at all came out.
FYI, this toilet sits back to back with the master bath toilet which displays no problems, and I have not problems with upstairs bath or any other fixtures.
Any suggestions as to what this problem would be?

I'd say a loose washer in the supply stop.

Well, it is definitely NOT "air", but you could have a "No Flood" supply line that has "turned off" because you opened the valve to quickly. if so, you have to unfasten it from the supply valve so it can reset, then turn it on VERY slowly.

supply stop. Those no leak supplies don't knock and make noise before they shut everything down.
