 In Tank Flushometer
Author: Peter S (NY)

Hello! I recently replaced a flushometer type of toilet with a tank based toilet and am now having problems. My apartment is in an old building with antiquated plumbing system. My super says that I should not have replaced the old flushometer—none of the apartments in the building (with flushometers are having problems. I've looked on line and seen some "in the tank" flushometers. These require that you replaced the entire tank. I'm wondering if there is a reliable apparatus that I could just install into the tank I already have installed.

If this is an apartment, and you signed a lease agreement, you had no business changing out anything concerning the plumbing. Your actions can potentially impact the water quality in the entire building under certain conditions.

NO but your new toilet should have absolutely no effect on your flushing, or any one elses, for that matter. What kind of problems are you having?

it makes no difference if the toilet is tank type or flushometer. if connected to a properly working drain system, both will flush equally well.

I hate when that happens. A flushometer using a 1 inch supply, while a tank type toilet uses 3/8-1/2 supply. That being said, what brand and model of tank toilet did you install? Did you do it yourself or have a licensed plumber do it?

This may not be as important, but you live in an apartment and you are renting or leasing. Do you get written permission to do this, or have it done?

I would love to see pictures of your finish product.
Best Wishes
