We recently experienced a cold front and unfortunately our outside faucet busted and our handle only turns in circles and we can't find the shut off for the water outside since we are in an old trailer. Its spewing water and we are losing water pressure in the rest of the house. We are in between paychecks at the moment and need a quick temporary fix until we can get a new handle or pay to have the whole thing fixed. Are there any quick fixes we can do so the handle turns in the proper on and off position? Or is there maybe a way we can stop the water flow from the spigot and keep it from flooding the yard? I believe we have a compression faucet.

The quickest fix would be to cut the cold water pipe feeding the faucet and cap it off with a SharkBite fitting. Replace the faucet in the spring.

It's possible that the handle is stripped. You might try removing the handle and turning the stem with a pair of pliers.

An "old trailer" probably has a "screw on" valve which you can remove and either replace it or cap the pipe.

if you choose to cut the pipe, don't cap it, put a sharkbite ball valve on the pipe. then replacement in the spring will be easier and you will have a valve for the faucet should you ever need it.

You can also buy a "hose thread cap" with a hose washer inside and if it's only coming out of the spout, you can thread this on till repairs can be made. Mass. plumber said it good, shut off water, cut line and shark bite cap it till spring! Gotta love shark bite fittings!!
