Hi, We have an Eljer Single Handle Tub Faucet in our hall bath. We just purchased the home and it was installed around 1999. We were trying to adjust the temperature stop (without turning off the water) and the cartridge blew out of the pipe that housed it a bit (the valve?). We turned the water off and put everything back together and now we have a leak. A pretty steady drip out of the faucet. We ordered an entire replacement package of the cartridge etc and installed it and we still have a steady flow of water coming out of the faucet. We scrubbed the inside to remove particles and build up, replaced everything and continue to have a drip. We are at a loss. Are we missing something? Thanks.

You may have damaged the valve body when you scrubbed the deposits off. If this is the case, then it will have to be replaced. Do you have the model of the faucet or a picture of the valve so we can see what you are dealing with?

Thank you for your reply. This is the replacement that we ordered. Is this helpful?
He is to the point where he is going to replace the diverter which would mean putting a hole in the tub...Just totally at a loss.

I found a tidbit from another site that may help. Use 2 pair of pliers to stretch the springs that are under the rubber cup shaped washers. This will push them out slightly so that they will make better contact with the cartridge. Try to get the springs to stretch about a 16th of an inch or so and you should be good. Maybe someone else here can advise you, but I thought that someone used to make taller seats for valley faucets.. I don't remember now. It looks like the ones at the orange box store have an additional plastic washer that goes under the spring to push it out further..

Thank you for the research & information. It is worth a shot and I will have to coax him into trying it before going overboard!

No go on the spring idea. The water is coming from somewhere else. Is it possible that the diverter was damaged when it pushed out the cartridge the first time we took it apart?

At this point, replacing the valve and not messing with it any further would be a better choice in my book.
