Toilet does not flush, even with cleanout cap removed.
Author: dollerprod (FL)

Disclaimer: Ignorant to plumbing/septic systems, ELI5 please.

Purchased a home about 2 months ago. When doing laundry or maybe a long shower, toilets will 'gurgle' and water ultimately ends up in front of house. Even if the cleanout cap is removed, the toilet (well... one of the toilets mainly) will not flush.

I'm probably wrong, but if this cap is off, shouldn't the toilet flush and drain away?

I'm fairly certain the drain field is faulty (^*$#@*^$), and this is why the washing machine spills water out of that cap. But, we also replaced both toilets and I am wondering if there is also something else, aside from the drain field giving me trouble.. again because it will not flush, even with the cap off, and the other toilet seems to do ok?

Someone helping me with other projects at the house said he thinks maybe the reason the other toilet does flush, even when the other will not, is because it is at the other end of the house and it's pipe runs for a while and that is what's "giving it room" to flush.

Thoughts/ corrections from you guys??

Thank you!

Is the pipe full of water when you remove the cleanout cover ?

Tnen the toilets will NOT flush because they are "air bound". Sinks, etc., will work IF they have vents through the roof. IF they had air admittance valves for vents, they would not drain either.

I hate when that happens.

Septic Tank required to be emptied when that happens and have the septic field back flushed. As a new home owner with a septic system, I would find out as much as you can about your septic system as you can.

Know where the discharge pipe is and the tank itself is and where the cover is. You will learn that with a septic system, there are several things that you don't flush or drain into the system from a drain, toilet or washing machine.

There is a trap in the toilet which is full of water. When the sewer line fills with water, there is an area, under the floor which traps the air between that water the water in the toilet. That creates a double trap and the "air lock" prevents the toilet from flushing.

Such as? I have never "pampered" my septic systems and have also never had problems with them.
