Can anyone suggest a late night alternative that i could safely use for my Bell and Gossett circulation pump that has run out of oil after hours? The only place open at 12:31 am is Wally world which I doubt has B&G pump oil. Can i temporarily use 3 in 1 oil or ??? It is below zero tonight and hate to wait another 7 hours to get my boiler up and running again!

"Bell & Gossett recommends that the pump bearings be lubricated with 1/2 teaspoon (20-30 drops) of B&G 20# weight non-detergent oil at the start of each heating season. A SAE 20 oil or 10W-30 oil may be substituted if B&G oil is not available.
Motor bearings should be lubricated as instructed on the lubrication once every four months (more often under adverse conditions). Use eight to ten drops in each oil lube." [documentlibrary.xylemappliedwater.com]

the key words here are "non-detergent"..
it is fine to use any automotive oil as long as it is non-detergent. drench the bearing assembly and keep it drenched. i tell customers to keep a small can of oil next to the circulator/s and oil it every time you walk by. it doesn't hurt it to be over-oiled. it does hurt the motor to over-oil. just 3-4 drop in the cups/openings on the motor and thats enough.
should be 2 of them. one on each end.
the smaller cartridge type circulators are water cooled and require no maintainance..

Overoiling the motor shaft, the two oil cups on top of the motor, will DESTROY the motor mounts, then it sags and changes the shaft alignment, which wears out the coupler. What is happening with the motor and pump? I have never heard of a B&G pump "running out of oil" and therefore it has to be turned off. If it is squealing, then it is probably too late for the oil anyway.

you forget your 'lunettes' again ?
that is what i said.
overoiling of the pump bearing can do no harm..

But you did NOT tell him HOW OFTEN to oil the motor. A few drops, too frequently, would over oil it.
