I'm replacing 4 original ground joints under bathroom sinks. They are from 1973. 1 1/4" where the tailpiece fits in and 1 1/2" at the ground joint.
I ordered 17 ga replacements that work with 1 1/4" and 1 1/2" tailpieces (use the tapered washer for 1 1/4".
I looked all over the web and couldn't find a j bend with 1 1/4" only tailpiece size. Do they exist? Also, how tight should the tailpiece fit in the j bend? Even tightened down, it seems a little bit loose.
Thanks.

I don't believe that you will find what you are looking for. You will have to change your look to 1-1/2 with reducer washer or a magestic coupling that is 1-1/2 x 1-1/4.
Best Wishes

just use a brass 1 1/2 by 1 1/4 slip nut with a tapered 1 1/2 by 1 1/4 rubber washer.
the slip nut has 1 1/2 threads but the hole is for 1 1/4 tailpiece.
that will fit snuggly and have a nice clean finished appearence.
