We recently moved to 3 story vertical home built in 2008. In the last couple of weeks, I have strange sound coming from the toilet in the master bathroom(top floor) - (my wife says it's also comes from the other bathroom but I've never heard by myself )
I'm trying to understand if there is something wrong with the toilet fill value or something else. The sound occurs randomly and not after I flush the water in the toilet, but the sound comes from the toilet/wall. I know in there is some pump which push water from the ground floor up but why the sound is coming from the toilet? Is there a pump involved in a toilet drainage systems?
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks and happy 2015!

Do YOU have a pump in the basement? THere is nothing connected to the toilet piping. WE would have to be there to hear the noise and see what the situation is WHEN it happens.

it could be a flapper not sealing 100%. if a little water trickles by the flapper, the fill valve may be letting water back in at a slow rate causing the noise.
might need a new flapper and possibly a new washer in the fill valve. (or clean debris from the fill valve)

I'd check for a leaky flapper first. The sound you hear could very well be the toilet tank refilling.
